Purchase Policy

What you are buying when you subscribe to MobContact, how renewal and cancellation work, and what happens to your money when something goes wrong. Effective 11 September 2026.

1. In short

A MobContact subscription is a recurring purchase. It renews by itself until you stop it, cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and your account is never deleted just because you stopped paying - it returns to the free tier.

This page sits alongside the Terms of Service, which govern everything else. Where the two overlap, section 8 of the Terms and this page are meant to say the same thing; if they ever disagree, the Terms win.

2. What a subscription is

MobContact is free to install and free to use for basic caller identification. A subscription unlocks additional features for a fixed period of time. It is a licence to use those features while the period lasts - not a purchase of data, not a licence to the underlying database, and not a permanent unlock.

There are two tiers:

  • VIP - caller identification and spam screening, without advertising.
  • Premium - everything in VIP, plus the deeper lookup features described on the plans section of the home page.

What each tier includes can change as the app changes. We describe the current contents on the plans section, and that description is the one that applies at the moment you buy.

What a subscription does not include. It does not guarantee that any particular number will resolve to a name. The database is built from what other people have contributed, so an unknown number stays unknown however much you have paid - paying more buys more features, never more certainty.

3. Billing period

Each tier is sold on one of three terms - weekly, monthly or yearly. You choose the term at purchase, and the price for it is shown before you confirm. Prices are quoted in US dollars.

You pay in advance for the whole period. Access begins as soon as the payment is confirmed and runs until the end of that period.

4. It renews automatically

Every term renews by itself. At the end of each period we take payment for the next one, at the price then in force, and access carries on without a break. This continues until you cancel or the payment fails.

We say this plainly because it is the part people most often miss: a weekly plan charges you every week, indefinitely, until somebody stops it. Nothing expires quietly on its own.

5. How to cancel

You can cancel at any time, and you never need to give a reason.

  • If you subscribed through an app store, cancel in that store's subscription settings. That is the only place the renewal can be stopped, because the store - not us - holds the payment arrangement. Removing the app does not cancel anything.
  • If you paid us directly by card, ask us to cancel at [email protected] and we will stop the renewal and confirm it in writing.

Cancel before the current period ends and there is no further charge. Cancel after a renewal has already been taken and the cancellation applies to the following renewal - see section 7 for whether the charge just taken can be refunded.

6. When cancellation takes effect, and what happens next

Cancelling stops the next payment. It does not cut short the period you have already paid for: your features keep working until that period ends, because you paid for it.

When the period does end, your account drops to the free tier. It is not deleted. You keep your account, your number stays registered, and basic caller identification carries on working. Only the paid features stop.

Deleting your account is a separate thing that you have to ask for deliberately - it is described in the Privacy Policy. Cancelling a subscription never deletes anything.

If you subscribe again later, you start a new period from that date. Unused time from a previous subscription does not carry over.

7. Refunds

Because access starts immediately and is delivered in full for the period you bought, a period already begun is generally not refundable, and cancelling part-way through one does not produce a pro-rata refund. That is the default. It is not the whole story:

  • If we charged you in error - a duplicate charge, a charge after a confirmed cancellation, or a charge for something you did not get - tell us and we will refund it. That is a mistake on our side, not a refund request.
  • If the service was unusable for a significant part of a period because of a fault at our end, contact us and we will put it right, by refund or by extending the period.
  • Where the law gives you a refund or withdrawal right, that right applies regardless of anything above. See section 8.
  • Any goodwill refund window beyond the above is 14 days from the charge. We have deliberately not written a number here, because publishing one we do not actually honour would be worse than publishing none.

8. Purchases made through an app store

If you bought your subscription inside the app through an app store, the store took the payment, not us. We never see your card details, and we cannot issue a refund for a charge we did not make.

For a purchase made through Google Play, refunds are requested from Google and are decided by Google under Google Play's own refund policy and the terms you accepted with them. The same principle applies to any other store: the store that billed you is the one that refunds you, on its terms, on its timescale, and at its discretion.

The stores this app is currently sold through are Google Play, for in-app purchases, and direct download of the Android package from this site. We are naming this rather than assuming it, because the answer decides who you have to ask for your money back.

We will still help. Write to [email protected] with your order details and we will tell you exactly which route applies to your purchase and what to send - we just cannot move the money ourselves.

9. Statutory withdrawal and consumer rights

Consumer law in some countries gives you a right to withdraw from a distance contract within a short period - commonly fourteen days - and to be refunded.

Where that right applies to you, you have it, and nothing on this page limits it. Two things are worth knowing about how it works for a service like this one: the period usually runs from the day the contract is made, and if you asked for the service to start immediately, you may be asked to pay for the part you actually used, or may lose the right once the service has been fully delivered.

You also keep any mandatory protection given to consumers by the law of the country you live in, including rights against a service that is not as described.

To exercise a withdrawal right, write to [email protected] and say so clearly. For a purchase made through an app store, raise it with the store as well - see section 8.

10. Price changes

Prices can change. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for; it applies from your next renewal onward.

Before a price increase takes effect on your subscription, we will tell you, in advance, with enough time to cancel before the new price is charged. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before the renewal date and you will not be charged it. Carrying on past that date is what counts as accepting it.

Promotional and introductory prices last only for the period stated in the offer, and then renew at the standard price for that term. Where an offer works that way, we say so at the point of purchase.

11. Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails - an expired card, insufficient funds, a bank declining the charge - the payment provider will normally retry it over the following days before giving up. Retries are attempts to collect the same charge, not additional charges, even when your bank shows a pending entry for each attempt.

While a renewal is unpaid, paid features may be suspended. If the payment eventually succeeds, access resumes. If it never succeeds, the subscription ends and the account drops to the free tier exactly as described in section 6 - nothing is deleted, and no debt is carried forward.

The exact retry schedule is set by the payment provider and is retried by our payment provider over the following seven days, after which the subscription lapses to the free tier. If you would rather not be retried at all, cancel.

12. Chargebacks

If you do not recognise a charge, please contact us before disputing it with your bank. Most disputed charges turn out to be a renewal the person had forgotten was running, and we can usually explain or refund it faster than a bank can process a claim.

When a chargeback is raised, the payment is reversed and we may suspend the subscription and the paid features it covered while the claim is decided. We will respond to the bank with our record of the purchase. If a chargeback is upheld we accept it; if a pattern of chargebacks looks like abuse of the service, we may decline future purchases from that account.

None of this is intended to discourage a genuine dispute. If a charge is wrong, we would rather fix it directly - but a chargeback that turns out to be a forgotten renewal costs everyone weeks.

13. VAT and local taxes

Depending on where you live, value added tax, sales tax or an equivalent local tax may apply to your purchase. Whether a displayed price already includes that tax, or has it added at checkout, depends on your country and on where you bought.

For purchases made through an app store, the store normally calculates and collects the tax, and its receipt is the tax document. For purchases taken directly, the amount is shown before you confirm.

Our tax status and registration details are [VAT / TAX REGISTRATION TO BE COMPLETED BY THE OPERATOR]. Ask us at [email protected] if you need an invoice suitable for business accounting.

14. Questions about a charge

Write to [email protected]. To let us find the payment quickly, include the phone number registered to the account, the approximate date and amount of the charge, and - if you bought through a store - the order number from the store's receipt.

The legal entity behind MobContact and its registered address are published at [email protected], which is the contact point for every request and complaint under these terms.
